Malachite Kingfisher

Alcedo cristata galerita

This tiny jewel (c 4½in., c17.5cm) is a real 'fisher', living in woodland habitats, and perching over water to look for aquatic prey.
It is a common and widespread bird in suitable habitats, but although colourful, its small size means it is easily overlooked.
I photographed this one in Amboseli NP.
