Oryx gazella

The Oryx found in Southern Africa is often known by its Afrikaans name, Gemsbok. In many books, it is listed merely as a separate sub-species to the Fringe-eared and Beisa Oryxes of Eastern Africa, but Kingdon has it as a separate full species, Oryx gazella (Southern Oryx/Gemsbok)

Although the Oryx usually drank from the edge of this waterhole at Okakuejo rest camp, this one chose to wade right in.
