Five-striped Palm-squirrel.Very common and tame in villages.This is the species of squirrel which Rama thanked for helping the monkeys to build the bridge/causeway to Lanka when he was rescuing Sita from Ravana. The stripes were left when he stroked one of them, and have been there ever since! |
